【概要】
当館では、1981(昭和56)年の開館時から横浜関係海外資料の収集に力を入れてきた。近代以降の横浜の歴史が海外と密接な関係にあること、さらに震災・戦災によって国内の横浜関係資料の多くが焼失し、これを補うためにも各国政府文書をはじめとする外国側の資料、あるいは海外に所在する日本側の資料が必要とされるからである。
収集対象国は、安政の五カ国条約の締結相手国であるアメリカ・イギリス・フランス・オランダ・ロシアを基本とした。この内、アメリカ・イギリス・フランスでの資料収集は外交文書を中心とし、さらに海軍省文書や陸軍省文書などへ対象を広げ、かなりの進捗をみた。また中国の資料も、関東大震災関係のみであるが、収集した。しかしオランダ・ロシアでの資料収集は言語の問題もあり、捗っていない。なお対象時期は、幕末から昭和戦前期を目安に収集してきた。
資料収集はおもにマイクロフィルムで行い、これを印画紙に焼き付けて複製本を作成し、閲覧に供している。原資料で入手したものもあるが、資料保存の観点から同様に複製本で閲覧公開をおこなっている。当館蔵および原所蔵先の許可があるものについては、複製本からの電子式複写が可能である。
海外資料は、政府資料・商会資料・個人資料・教会資料・その他の5つに大別し、さらに政府資料と個人資料については各国ごとにまとめている。なお、個人資料中の「辰巳一文書」と「武田家旧蔵アーネスト・サトウ関係資料」は国内に所在する資料であるが、使用言語や内容、他の海外資料との関連から海外資料とした。
各資料名の後に、収集時の原所蔵機関の資料番号を（ ）で記した。資料の利用に際しては、必ずそれぞれの所蔵機関の規則に従っていただきたい。とくに原蔵者・寄贈者・寄託者の記載がない資料は、当館が購入したものである。
なお本文は、すでに紹介した目録および解題（中武香奈美「横浜開港資料館で公開する海外複製資料（正・続）」、『紀要』11・18）に、追加訂正をおこなったものである。
